REVIEW LEOPARDSTOWN (IRE) *3.55: SUNDAY MAY 4th 2014
"Weld lands spoils with Fascinating
Rock after Oxx colt Ebanoran demoted.
David Jennings reports:
"Weld "I don't want to win races that way, admitted
Weld. That said, I think he was the best horse in the race. The interference
happened and it was a messy race. The horse was further back than Pat Smullen
ideally wanted. He's a big, long-striding horse and off the home-turn he just
lost his hind end momentum and the fantastic jockey that Pat is, he just
sat and waited for the horse to get his
balance back and by that stage the other horse is gone, so it is just the case
to catch me if you can from that point on. " Only six horses ran. "
"I will have to speak to his
owners but it is pretty definite he will go to Epsom. He will have learned a lot today. "
"Oxx was his usual gracious self
in Ebanoron eventual defeat in the stewards room. That's how it goes he said as
he shook Weld's hand. Like Fascinating Rock, a trip to Epsom is on the cards
for Ebanoran and Oxx does not feel stamina will be an issue."
"After dawdling through the
early stages, Declan Mc Donogh kicked for home on Ebanoron passing the
two-furlong pole and it looked a race winning move.
"Fascinating Rock, held up last
by Pat Smullen off that slow gallop, had six lengths to make up in the straight
but he quickened well on the outside and was closing rapidly when the line
came.
"The head on re-play showed Ebanoran had drifted to his right and bumped
Fascinating Rock close home, and the stewards felt the move effected the
outcome. McDonogh picked up a three-day ban for careless riding.
PERSPECTIVE FROM THE SADDLE
It is a very, very, very different perspective
from the saddle, than from anywhere else.
