Review of Sacred Sunday's Derrinstown Stud Guineas Trial

REVIEW LEOPARDSTOWN (IRE) *3.55: SUNDAY MAY 4th 2014

"Weld lands spoils with Fascinating Rock after Oxx colt Ebanoran demoted.
David Jennings reports:

"Weld  "I don't want to win races that way, admitted Weld. That said,  I think he was the best horse in the race. The interference happened and it was a messy race. The horse was further back than Pat Smullen ideally wanted. He's a big, long-striding horse and off the home-turn he just lost his hind end momentum and the fantastic jockey that Pat is, he just sat  and waited for the horse to get his balance back and by that stage the other horse is gone, so it is just the case to catch me if you can from that point on. " Only six horses ran. "

"I will have to speak to his owners but it is pretty definite he will go to Epsom.  He will have learned a lot today. "

"Oxx was his usual gracious self in Ebanoron eventual defeat in the stewards room. That's how it goes he said as he shook Weld's hand. Like Fascinating Rock, a trip to Epsom is on the cards for Ebanoran and Oxx does not feel stamina will be an issue."

"After dawdling through the early stages, Declan Mc Donogh kicked for home on Ebanoron passing the two-furlong pole and it looked a race winning move.

"Fascinating Rock, held up last by Pat Smullen off that slow gallop, had six lengths to make up in the straight but he quickened well on the outside and was closing rapidly when the line came.

"The head on re-play showed  Ebanoran had drifted to his right and bumped Fascinating Rock close home, and the stewards felt the move effected the outcome. McDonogh picked up a three-day ban for careless riding.

PERSPECTIVE FROM THE SADDLE
It is a very, very, very different perspective from the saddle, than from anywhere else.

Northern Dancer: The Legend and His Legacy

Product Description

From the Back Cover

Roger Sangster- millionaire businessman and the ultimate horsetrader- is the man who took on the world in the highly volatile business of racehorse breeding and won, over and over again…
With individual thoroughbred racehorses costing millions of pounds each, the explosion in the bloodstock industry in the 1980s was the ultimate gamble of the decade- symbol of the business euphoria of the times. Tracing the gripping events of how Sangster and his elite Irish racing experts took the world's most prestigious bloodstock auction, the Keeneland Sales in Kentucky, by storm and written with the full co-operation of Sangster himself, 'Horsetrader', is the inside track on a breathtaking bid to corner the thoroughbred market. The shock waves from the spectacular crash that followed are still reverberating throughout the world of the Sport of Kings.

"One of the most riveting books about international racing ever published- impressively well-researched, exciting and well-written".
'Financial Times'

"An excellent book, to be enjoyed not only by betting-shop punters but the city tycoons".

The British Guineas, Derby, and Royal Ascot Classic Races: Taking a much closer look.

RACING POST:  PRICEWISE ASKED YESTERDAY  “ANY MORE ACES IN AIDAN’S DERBY PACK?

YESTERDAY PRICEWISE ASKS SOME KEY QUESTIONS
 PAGE ELEVEN:

Equus Zone:
Concentration accuracy precision …  within the mind-set perspective of a race- rider -jockey - handler of a very high global standard as Ryan Moore,  Kieran Fallon and Frankie Dettori.

Did  you take notice in yesterday’s Racing Post page 11 PRICEWISE: Tom Segal sets out the field’s in all four of CH4 live televised races in separate grids for your quick reference.

The first race at Chester was the  1.45 Handicap 1m2f+ Flat Turf: Tom’s headline reads:
“9-1 Tres will love getting his toe in. "
WON: 11-2

“IF THERE is one thing you never want to do betting at Chester it’s use your own brain. Anyone who tries to use it to find a few winners will soon come unstuck. Yesterday the Chester Cup was won by a low –draw horse ridden by Ryan Moore. What more was there to know? And the sprint handicap was ridiculous, with anything drawn higher than stall seven having no chance.

“The problem is as soon as you fall in with the norm, a badly drawn runner wins or your selection gets hampered about 50 times. It is then that punting at Chester becomes incredibly frustrating.

“Perhaps Romsdal  will  score for John Gosden, but really it’s a bit of a guessing game as to how good he is. And therefore this is not a race that looks punter friendly, unless you know for sure the ability of the two Irish runners. “

“If the rain arrives Noble Mission (full brother to Frankel) will probably repeat his Sandown victory over Telescope in the Betfair in the Price Rush Huxley Stakes, although he surely won’t be allowed as much rope out in front as he was on that occasion” . WIN: Noble Mission 5 9-3 partner James Doyle minder trainer Lady Jane Cecil  for K Abdullah 9-4f f

“The feature race, the MBNA the Chester Vase (2014 Derby Trial) doesn’t look that good on paper, but we said the same a year ago before subsequent Derby winner Ruler Of The World hacked up. To win this race. The one really top horse in the line-up could be Orchestra, who looked good when winning his maiden at Tipperary last season.
The winner was indeed Orchestra partner Ryan Moore but only just from Romsdal partner William Buick trainer team John Gosden.

WEDNESDAY MAY 7th 2014. TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT AUSTRALIAN RACECOURSES

Australian Racecourses

Australia is known for its immense interest in horse racing and is home to nearly 400 racecourses in total. These racecourses exist all over the country, and are classed as either Metropolitan, Provincial or Country racetracks. Metropolitan racecourses are usually home to the big Group races and are often better quality than other racecourses. Provincial racecourses are usually located just outside major cities and can be home to Provincial Cup races that often have Group or Listed status. Country races, apart from certain Country Cup meets, are not usually covered by off course bookmakers or the TAB.
